Subfloor Preparation and Installation of LVT
Tilemaster Adhesives' Professional Flooring Range includes a variety of smoothing compounds for subfloor preparation and a universal high-temperature adhesive for installing LVT/Vinyl and other resilient floor coverings. All products are UK manufactured with extensive stock, and backed by excellent technical support.
Where the existing subfloor is relatively smooth and only needs minor repairs and feather-edge smoothing for areas such as trowel marks and gouges, Tilemaster Feather is the perfect product to use. It is a fast setting, ultra-fine, high polymer patch-repair and smoothing compound which has been specifically developed to improve subfloors prior to the installation of a new floor covering, including decorative vinyl, linoleum and laminate. It can be used without priming, except where used with a calcium sulphate screed. In this case it should be primed with Tilemaster Primeplus, which is designed to prime, stabilise and seal substrates prior to the application of self-levelling and smoothing compounds.
For more uneven substrates, the substrate should be primed with Primeplus or Tilemaster Prime+ Grip. This is a ready mixed, ready to use, rapid drying primer that can be used on both absorbent and non-absorbent substrates and provides a textured “+ Grip” surface. Then the surface should be smoothed using a compound such as ultra-rapid setting Tilemaster Super Flow 30 or rapid setting Tilemaster Pro Flow. These two part self-levelling smoothing compounds are moisture tolerant and can be applied directly to a DPM within 24 hours without priming. Super Flow 30 has a walk on time of 30 minutes and finished flooring can be installed after 90 minutes. Pro Flow will accept foot traffic after 90 minutes and has an installation time of 3-4 hours.
Finally, LVT flooring can be installed using Eco-3000, a high-performance universal high temperature adhesive with a fast tacking off time. This allows flooring to be installed after as little as 10 minutes, and light foot traffic after 12 hours. It is suitable for use on a wide variety of substrates and has excellent adhesion properties.
