Tilemaster creates level playing field at Manchester Grammar School
A Tilemaster floor system has been installed, by Premier Flooring, within a new sports hall facility at Manchester Grammar School. The new facility, at the celebrated independent boys’ school, will accommodate various activities including cricket training, squash, indoor hockey and badminton. Tilemaster Prime + Grip and Fine Flow 3000 were chosen to provide an exceptionally smooth, sound surface and a fast, safe application, ready for fixing of the finished Gerflor sports flooring.
Designed by Architects, Worthington Ashworth Jackson Walker, the new sports hall replaces the previous facility which was damaged in storms. It includes four cricket lanes, changing rooms, stores, offices and a separate assembly and multi-purpose space with panoramic views over the sports fields. Building works were carried out by Carefoot plc to create the highly insulated space, which is naturally ventilated via roof-mounted wind catchers.
During the floor installation, Tilemaster Prime + Grip was applied by Premier Flooring over a previously installed blind-sanded membrane. The multi-purpose, ready mixed primer provides a textured “+ Grip” surface with superior bond enhancing properties. It is suitable for absorbent and non-absorbent surfaces and can be tiled or levelled over within 15 minutes. Tilemaster Fine Flow 3000 was then applied, at a depth of 5mm, to create a strong, even surface finish. The protein-free system is cement based and suitable for use over most substrates. Fast setting capabilities allow for ceramic fixing after just three hours and decorative vinyl within 24 hours.
